Gina has been podcasting with John since early 2007. Finally finding her calling in life at the age of 33, she lives in the Bay Area of California with her husband of 8 years, and her 2 teenagers. Gina met John through his previous bisexual podcast, The Bruiser Chronicles, which is one way she was able to more openly accept her bisexuality. She is an avid martial arts practitioner, and enjoys spending time with her family, visiting the ocean, and search & rescue training.
John has been involved in podcasting since early 2005, creating and hosting two successful bisexual podcasts, as well producing many others. A freelance writer and web designer living in Saint Paul, Minnesota, he is incredibly close to his family, and always looking to make new friends. His writing focuses on the positive spirit within us all, drawing it out, and being who we are, not who others want us to be. He is currently single and looking for that special person to make him an honest man.
As John and I talked about on Show 29, we are proud to announce the beginning of BiDENTIFICATION Bingo!!!
It's simple to play. Email us at bidentification@gmail.com and let us know you would like to play, and we will email you your VERY own free BiDENTIFICATION Bingo Card for the month of May.
We will begin with Game #1. When Game #1 ends, all the numbers are discarded and Game #2 begins. Each card is good for a whole month, but you must clear the card every time we begin a new game. We keep playing each game until someone wins. To win, you must announce "BINGO!" in the "Official Bingo Thread" we will start on May 15th, as well as prove that you are our winner- a digital picture of the card would work.
The prizes that will be given away will vary- John and I also decided the first prize we'd like to give away is a BiDENTIFICATION t-shirt.
John or I will arbitrarily pick numbers every day and post them to the upcoming "Official Bingo Thread". The game will officially start on May 15th, 2008. All rules are arbitrary and capricious and are subject to change.
So everyone get ready, and let's play! You can email us at bidentification@gmail.com for your own shiny BiD Bingo card.
Happy May! John discusses the second winning entry from the "John Wants Sex Toys" suggestion thread. Do you go to restaurants, movies, or bars by yourself? BiDENTIFICATION Bingo begins! A post explaining the game to follow this evening. And meeting new people.
One of the things Gina and I discussed doing with the gallery was creating an interactive "Wall" of images based on different themes: Love, Happiness, Childhood, Peace, and so on. A place where people could submit images based on these particular themes; images that best reflected those words and themes for them. We thought it would be a fun way to get people thinking about how they could express a thought without words, but in a visual way, and how interesting it would be to see the results. How will different people see a specific word or thought expressed visually.
Well, today we're starting The Picture Project that you can find within the BiDENTIFICATION Gallery. Each week a new gallery will be created with a new theme and challenge. Keep yourself within the boundaries created for each challenge, that's part of the fun.
This week we kick off The Picture Project with the first challenge: SEXY.
What is 'sexy' to you? What does 'sexy' mean? If you had to explain it using a photograph, what would that photograph be?
The challenge will be to post images that show your idea of 'sexy' without including nudity (bare backsides and male chests, excluded). Hey, it's a challenge so we need to set some limitations. Those types of images will be allowed in some future challenges.
Post as many images as you'd like. And as you're looking through all the submissions, don't forget to rate them!
If the images are not yours, please give proper credit by including a photographer's name or link to the site the image was found.
I've kicked it off by posting 5 images that represent 'sexy' to me. I'll be posting more after some more of you have started participating.
Let's have fun with this! I think this could be a really fun addition to the site.
No real plans for an organized discussion. We discuss everything from bad dreams and what they may mean, to losing weight and eating healthy. BiDENTIFICATION t-shirts are also now available, and we plan on starting the BiD Bingo Game!
The audio levels are a bit off again this week. We're working to figure out what the issues may be with Gina's new headset.
Each year, the April 22 Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Among other things, 1970 in the United States brought with it the Kent State shootings, the advent of fiber optics, "Bridge over Troubled Water," Apollo 13, the Beatles' last album, the death of Jimi Hendrix, and the meltdown of fuel rods in the Savannah River nuclear plant near Aiken, South Carolina -- an incident not acknowledged for 18 years. At the time, Americans were slurping leaded gas through massive V8 sedans. Industry belched out smoke and sludge with little fear of legal consequences or bad press. Air pollution was commonly accepted as the smell of prosperity. Environment was a word that appeared more often in spelling bees than on the evening news. But Earth Day 1970 turned that all around.
Gina discusses something in her personal life she has been dealing with the past couple weeks, we have new BiDENTIFICATION t-shirts, and Donnie is our new model.
The audio levels are a bit off again this week as we begin to work with different recording set-ups. We should have that nailed down by Show #28.
Some technical difficulties with the first recording, so this one was done very last minute late last night (early this morning), so this is as close as our show will ever get to being "unedited". The audio levels are a bit off because we weren't using our regular set-up; Gina was recording using her built in Mac microphone.
We discuss the winners of the "Pick John's Sex Toy" submission contest, Gina's trip to the local adult store, and a bit about the site and what direction we would like to see it heading in.
We're having some issues with Show#26, but we will have the MP3 version released by this evening, with the enhanced file by tomorrow.
The original recordings were not usable, so Gina and I, in an attempt to get something released today, made a new recording late last night. It's just taking me a bit of time to get it put together. I've had some running around to do today. It's tax time in the U.S.
In the next day, or so, iTunes will be listing both the MP3 and Enhanced feeds for the show. Here is a direct link to the new Enhanced feed until it officially appears in their directory. Currently only shows 17, 18, 20, and 24 - Current (25, and 26 tomorrow) are available as Enhanced podcasts. Gina and I will be adding all the earlier shows in the new few weeks so that both feeds are complete. There is also a link to all the BiD feeds (MP3, Enhanced Podcast, and Blog) on the homepage of the site in the left column. I'll be adding a feed for the forum this week, as well.
A special "extra" podcast this week to celebrate our 6 month anniversary doing this show together. It is more a celebration of why we're friends than it is a "show", but we felt it reflected why we stick together even though we drive each other crazy sometimes.
This is a special release, so there will still be a release on Monday, as well.
While looking around on the intertubes, I found this. Not only is it weird and disturbing but, for some reason, I laughed so hard coffee came out of my nose.
Sorry, guys, but I am just sick today, and John and I won't be able to podcast tonight. Thus, there will be no show this week. I woke up with a high fever and it was all down hill from there. We will be back next week, though! Thanks for your understanding!
This conversation has come up a couple different times on the podcast, but it always seems to get cut out.
Do you have a special language you use with your friends? Something that has grown out of jokes, experiences, or just the length of your friendship? I tend to think these words and/or phrases are really something special. They celebrate a bond and a closeness you share with those close to you. Some people view them as "inside jokes", and thereby somewhat rude, but that misses the point. That label is incorrect because it insinuates something negative. There is a lot of comfort that comes from being able to communicate with your friends, family, and people you are close to, in a way that is unique to your relationship. While inside jokes are typically negative, I don't think the Friend Vernacular is in any way secretive or exclusionary. In fact, most people I know are very excited to discuss where those words and phrases have come from, where an inside joke is typically not explained and leaves people feeling foolish.
It's fun to go back and think about, because you probably use a lot of words and phrases in your life that are unique to you and your friends, your family, co-workers, or any "group" in your life. I think it is fun to take a look at the origins of these things. They are typically the words we use when we are most comfortable with ourselves, and when we are happiest. So thinking about where they came from usually brings a smile.
Allow me to share some of the words and phrases in my vernacular:
CHOT: A combination of the words "chunky" and "hot". A larger man who is hot. (Also, CHOTNESS) CHUTE(CH-OOT): Similar to CHOT, but used to describe a man who is "chunky" and "cute".
Yes, there is a difference between "hot" and "cute", at least to me.
LERO: Used to describe the gay blog, Towleroad. Born out of a story involving an undersized t-shirt being worn on my extra large chest. A black t-shirt with "TOWLEROAD" across the front quickly was stretched to become nothing more than "LERO" (the middle 4 letters) across my chest. Example of use: "Hey, did you go check out LERO today?"
LMAF: Typo meant to read "LMAO". A definition was quickly created by the question that followed in the next IM line: "Laughing my ass ... farted?"
Casserole: To be used in place of the word "asshole". Hear the origin of this on BiD Show #000a.
So, what are some of your special words and phrases?
Show #23 will be coming tomorrow (Monday), following the new Monday release date. I had planned on waiting a couple weeks to switch the schedule, but I needed the extra time this week to get the new site finished.
This week: The new site and forum will be ready by next week, new podcast release day, you shouldn't ask another person with OCD for advice, and Gina & John discuss their Bucket Lists.
I saw this on Oprah a few months ago, and it really touched me. I have been doing a lot of thinking along these lines lately. There is a lot of wisdom to be found in his message. I hope you find it as moving as I did, and pass it on to your friends.
Well folks, in our last show we asked everyone to let us know if they would like us to move forward with implementing a forum community here on BiD. Many of you responded via e-mail, and some of you commenting on the site. The consensus is: give us a forum! LOL
I will be focusing on getting a new version of the site implemented within the next week, or so. Gina and I will be focusing on transferring all the existing posts and comments to the new site so that nothing will be lost. The only drawback is that each of you who have registered for a username will need to do so again in order to participate. Not a huge deal, but I wanted to make you all aware of that.
I was just talking to Gina about some of the preliminary work that we need to accomplish for this rollover, and we're both really excited to get the forums up and running. We are in agreement with all of you, that a forum will really be helpful in building a healthy, positive, and supportive community for all of us.
Watch for it next week. We're looking forward to seeing you there.
